Tutorial: Chipped Paint

December 28th 2009 -

Right, going to show you a REALLY simple technique that has great effects. I plan to use this a lot more now I’ve retrieved my masking fluid from the depths of the cupboard!

So, first off you’ll need some Masking Fluid, this is the stuff I own, someone gave it to me a while ago but I’ve seen it on art shops. It’s basically latex, it smells like fish.
Vajello do something similar I think, probably the same stuff!

++1++
Basically you have your base colour, for me it’s just dark grey, this is the colour under the paint that will show through once completed, can be rusty or plain etc, totally up to you!

++2++
You simply splodge some of the masking fluid on in places where paint would get chipped, so edges of shoulder pads or on this Enforcer Riot shield, the bottom and corners.

++3++
Paint on your scheme as usual painting over the areas of masking fluid like they weren’t there.
Once finished simply take your finger/rubber/something, and rub the areas you applies the masking fluid too, they’ll peal away the top layer revealing the material underneath!
Here’s one I did earlier:
