World Eaters Rhino Test

August 5th 2009 -

As I previously mentioned I under-coated the majority of my Khorne army the other day, then I realised that I had no “real” idea of how I was going to go about painting them, I needed a style that would look good on the vehicles as well as the infantry, so I decided to test out my paint scheme on a Rhino first, I used a method similar to my Deathwing where I do a streaky pattern but I built it from black this time. Still needs some details painting up, such as the lights, which I don’t know how to do? shall I make it a light source like my termies eyes? Or just normal grey like they’re off? If on what colour?

The paint blending is very well done.

Great stuff!!! looks very clean the sculpted sculls look extreemly well painted gold lovely work!

    Cheers CJ
  • I really like how your rhinos turned out, in fact I may copy the look for my traitor guard vehicles. I look forward to seeing the rest of the army painted up and looking for blood!

i LOVE how those skulls turned out but the paint job on the symbols on the doors is just SUPERB!

As for the lights...it is tricky. Light does help you see better and therefore kill better so they would keep them fixed, or they could be powered by warp/daemons etc so having them 'on' isnt gonna look silly so for me its all about what works on the model. If you do have them 'on' you MUST have the light effect that you do oh so well espcially as it would hit the skulls infront of them and that my friend would kick ass...seriously k.i.c.k. a.s.s.
so colour...hmm. you know colour, colour wheel & theory better than me Tim, but i want to say either light green or blue. a pale colour though....like sky blue.
    anyway, good luck :)
  • I really like this Rhino. The way it is dark at the bottom and gets lighter towards the top is very nice. The skulls also really make it stand out.
  • The Rhino looks fantastic. Your skulls turned out very well and the red matches what I imagine World Eaters looking like. Do you have a tutorial anywhere on achieving the streaky style?

As for the lights, I would think that at this point they've either broken or the bulbs have died, and I don't see Chaos marines caring enough to fix them. Also, I think that since everything else on your model is so understated that bright yellow lights or glowing effects could ruin a really good feeling you've got going.

Just some thoughts, really great work overall.
  • Cheers,
The streaky pattern is as simple as getting a brush and flattening the point, sort of the like new GW Large Drybrush, I used to old Tank Brush for these, just drag the colour downwards :)
