Game Three
Again I was on Table 1 with my Deathwing, I like table one, it’s at the end of the long row so I don’t have to walk a mile to get to the other side of the board!
Anyway!
Game Three I was against Chaos. His army was a mess, he’d gathered up any models he could find and use them, he had old preadtors with broken sponsons and the turret ring on as rhinos, models were missing arms and nothing was the same colour.
His army consisted of:
- 2 Daemon Princes with Lash
- 3 x 5 berserkers with Champion with Power weapon in a rhino
- 10 marines with champion and 2 meltas in a rhino.
Mission was Annihilation and deployment was Dawn Of War.
It all went wrong from turn one really, He deployed his Prince in the center of the board with the 10 man marine unit there too, I deployed my shooty termies to the far right in the ruin.
On came his three units of Berserkers that came on 12″, his prince too, the other prince moving forward along with the marine rhino.
My turn The Land Raider came on the far left behind the termies. Deploying them was a huge mistake as you’ll see, what I really should have done is deepstruck them and deployed the raider on the other side of the board/wherever his army was weakest.
The dreadnought came on behind the hill on the left ready to shoot the rhino.
So his turn two, 2 squads of berserker’s get out of their rhinos and walk forwards, this confused me a little but I understood why after he lashed the shooty termies TWICE and ended up moving them basically an inch away from 10 berserkers and a prince. Not good.
Being a World Eater player myself I know how nasty they can be.. but combined with Lash it’s just horrible.. So yeah, the shooty termies were chopped to pieces!
My turn, I move to counter the marine rhino speeding towards me dread and rhino, I shoot both the dread and Crusader at it but fail to do anything..
His berserker rhinos retreat into hiding to deny me easy kill points, whilst the princes and berskers march forward. His melta guns leap from the rhino ready to melt some Landraider hull but both miss, phew!
In return I send Belial and the Banner unit in to kill the 10 marines whilst the dread goes for this rhino the marines came from. The Crusader decided to take on some of these small units of Berskers reducing a unit of 5 to 1..ugh. Belial and his squad happily chop through the marines and then consolidate back down the hill hopefully far enough to not be assaulted. Wrong. The Dreadnought punches the rhino, three penetrating hits.. immobilized, weapon destroyed and stunned.
Yeah they got lashed.. RIGHT into the middle of his army.. again. A daemon Prince ripped Belials arms off whilst Berskers chopped the rest of the unit up.. the other daemon prince charged my Crusader and rolled a double 6 to penetrate.. then a 6 on the table and therefore wrecking her.
The game ended on turn 5, nothing more I could do and I was well and truly beaten! I think if I’d have deployed smarter I could have turned it around to a victory easily.
So despite being on table one and winning, he only gained 4 kill points for that game, meaning the person on table two who also won his game came first as he claimed about 9 killpoints in the final game, taking his score higher than my opponents.
Not entirely sure where I came in the end, will let you know when I know!
However!
I did get an award, something that made my day and probably the rest of the week!
I won the Best Painted Army Award!
I received a laminated certificate with my name spelt incorrectly (I think everyones was..) and a £20 gift voucher!
So my first tournament in 5th edition with a new army and I won my first Best Painted Army award. Was a great day out and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
