Thursday Night Gaming

November 6th 2009 -

Every Thursday I got down to my local GW (not really down.. it’s sort of across the road) to play a game or two. I generally get 1 game in on the evening along with some painting and social chit chat.

Now, I’m a bad person for remembering things, but I’m going to try and report my Thursday night gaming each week. I also bad for taking photos, so some might use my trusty Vassal40k module for images instead.

Last Thursday I played a Space Marine army (can’t remember the players name..). His list consisted of the following (roughly):

– Commander
-Relic Blade, Combi Melta with Hell fire rounds(?), artificer armour

-8 terminators

– Land Raider Crusader with Hunter Killer

-Tactical Squad
– Missile, Flamer, Sergeant with plasma pistol

– Tactical Squad
– Plasma Cannon, flamer, Sergeant with something

– Tactical Squad
– Heavy Bolter, plasma gun, Sergeant with power fist

– Dreadnought with Multimelta.

I used my current Deathwing List, decided now was a good time to test out the Chaplain too.

Mission was Dawn Of War and Annihilation (again…)
He chose sides and deployed his commander in the central ruin along with a squad of tactical marines, the HB squad deployed on the left on top of the ruin.
Nothing really happened until turn two when my Raiders came on, by now majority of his force was past the middle of the board so it was just a matter of picking off the easy units.
My turn three the Terminators Deepstriked behind his Dreadnought.. scattering between the three tactical squads but still in LOS of the dread. The Crusaders rolled up the left flank shooting into a Tactical squad as they went, eventually wiping one out with pinpoint accuracy.
The terminators succeeded in killing the Dreadnought but eventually were shot down by mass plasma, bolter and missile fire over two turns.
His Crusader came around my flank late game, multi-melted my Landraider and made it Explode! His disembarked terminators were out of charge range and their Stormbolters did took down the Thunder Hammer terminator.
Belial and the Chaplain decided to join forces and charged the terminators along with the Banner squad, wiping out all the terminators.
I was glad to have the Chaplain at this point, 15 attacks from three LC termies.. I got 2 hits! With the Chaplains Re-roll I managed 12! The Weakened Terminators from the wrecked LR failed to reach the enemy Crusader, and when they did failed to do anything with their Chainfist.

Terminator Showdown

After that combat he shot them up a little, taking out the Heavy Flamer, then I charged his Commander and Tactical squad after the Crusader had softened them up a little with her Hurricane Bolters. Combat was short, the Chaplain took two wounds from the Commanders Relic Blade, the Chaplain Caused no return wounds but Belial cut the Commander down. The LC’s took care of the tactical marines.

The Chaplain and Belial take on the Fallen Commander

Then the game ended!
So in total my opponent scored 2 Kill points and I scored 5

  • Is it possible to have more then one Independant Character join a unit? Only I see the Commander and Chaplain with the close combat squad there. If so does the chaplains litanies of hate and the Banner Bearer benefit Belial too? If so then that will make a real mean close combat force, gotta get me one of them!
  • Yup! You can even have Independent Characters joining each other to form a
super unit! And yup the banner effects them too :) Belial, chappy and banner
squad is an extremely mean unit!

    Nice rapefest!
Seems like his main mistake was getting close to you, if he kept his distance he may have done better.
  • naaah, there was no way he could have escaped, he had little weaponry to
take out the crusaders and because I left it til turn 5 to attack he didnt
    have time to counter attack

You left it till turn 5?
    :S

And I didn't say he would have won, I said he would have done better :P
  • Well I didn't turn up til turn 2, I moved 12" on that turn, then slowly made my way forward shooting up a tactical squad, he was lucky and managed to get my Crusader but rolled bad for his assault range for the termies, so my initial attack was directed towards them instead of his commander who I got the turn after :) I had it all planned out ;)

    Aah ok, nice.
"WE HAVE REALLY AWESOME ARMOUR, DON'T USE TACTICS, JUST WALK AT THEM MENACINGLY!"
    Nice plan :D
  • I didn't walk, I sat inside my transport and rolled forward ;) which were relatively safe from the majority of his guns. Why put the termies in harms way when they can be safe? Especially in Annihilation ;)
So my plan was thwarted a little when he got my LR with the MM, but I still managed to win :)
